THE ANYTHING PEOPLE - Anythology

So many times for bands connected to `that Beatles` sound in the modern day, it`s hard to get the time of day - even from fans of power pop, garage and Merseybeat. 15 Years ago, if a band like The Anything People had come along, they would have been feted as saviors of the authentic 60s garage sound. Today, they are taken for granted and over-looked - don`t let the cynicism of the internet age and millions of songs at your disposal for free let you gaurd down if you are into the archetypal stylings that a band like The Anything People attack. Fans of The Seeds, The Remains, The Animals, The Standells, The Troggs, The 13th Floor Elevators and, yes, "that Liverpool sound" MUST hear The Anything People.

Throughout their long-anticipated full-length debut, New York City garage-beat kings The Anything People visit the lost art of writing good songs. The emphasis is definitely on "Anything", as the boys tackle everything from folk-rock ("You`re a Souvenir", "Who`s Crying Now?") to Merseybeat ("My Head Is Spinning") to straight-up garage ("Left Side", "Repeat After Me"). Byrdsy three-part harmonies are on proud display throughout the disc, particularly on a cover of the Ed Cobb-penned E-Types gem "She Moves Me". It`s the originals that really shine, though, and their timeless songs in a classic style have won the band no less a fan than the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer, who has put Anythology into regular rotation. Six live bonus cuts showcasing the group`s furious on-stage energy are also included for a total of 18 of the finest garage tunes in recent memory. Hear them now so that you can say you were a fan before they showed up on Grandchildren of Nuggets!
