THE BISHOPS - For Now | UK only. The Bishops` debut is one of my favorite debut of the last five years - it was that awesome, that perfect. Crucial. "For Now", the followup second album was bound to not exceed the impact of the debut but it is sure another winner I anxiously awaited and are not the least bit disappointed in. They still remind me of The Hollies playing early The Jam but not have moved onto that band`
s "Sound Affects" phase adding horns and a bit of soul to the proceedings. Armed with addictive melodies, compulsive rhythms and particularly alluring suits, The Bishops are a very, very Not Lame styled band who are barely out of their teens, bless `em! These are short, sharp, melodic pop songs here sung in the style of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks but with a late 70s UK skinny tie power pop and Buzzcocky spice added to the brew! It`s a refreshingly different and invigoratingly youthful record, oozing character and fervour from every pore, a record which brims with energy, feeling and drive, an unequivocally razor sharp distillation of classic 60`s pop. The band draw inspirations from all over - citing The Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, The Who, the Kinks and Love as key components in their sound but I am pretty sure they adore Supergrass, as well. YES!
