I canÂ`t get enough of "Stranger In The House", which is Song #1 below with its pub-poppy pure glee, sounding like Graham Parker doing early Elvis Costello. ItÂ`s been awhile since weÂ`ve heard from The Eddies but the time off is well, well spent as they are return with a collection of songs that is both tightly focused but stylistically diverse. Which makes sense as this is a collection of ---- covers! Cool covers! Featuring twins Dean and Dale Hoth on bass and guitar respectively, and producer and drummer Earle Mankey. The band breathe new life into some 80`s powerpop gems, covering songs by The Times, Squire, The Jetset, Manual Scan and The Risk. The band make the songs effortlessly their own. Soaring vocals, great instrumentation, Earle`s spot on drumming and full clear production make this a classy and well put together collection of songs.
One look at the cover of The Eddies` debut CD "In The Sunshine" leaves you wondering just exactly what their influences are: Mod? Powerpop? Surf? Punk? In skillfully combining components of each of these distinct and influential styles, The Eddies succeed in intertwining the basic elements of harmony, melody, and the inescapable complexities of love. Like their name (The Eddies) suggests, their catchy music hooks you and draws you in, completely. After swirling within a rich mixture of different sounds and textures, you are then left in a refreshing state of both surprise and pleasure. Produced by legendary(at least in these circles!), Earle Mankey, The Eddies embody everything you could hope to discover in a song--fluid harmonies, powerful chords, exhilarating energy, and expressive feelings. One listen and you`ll soon discover that you`ve been caught and you`re hooked. A chance to discover bands youÂ`ve never heard of, but should have or hear obscure, old faves reinterpreted by a caring ear, "Listen To The Sunshine" is just that - a chance to bask in the warm glow of yesteryear and remember anew. We need more projects like this!
