The Explosives lived up to their name in the late seventies and early eighties, packing more power than their so-called punk rock peers. Jungle wails and monkey calls opened their 1982 album, Restless Natives, produced by Creedence bassist Stu Cook, who not only brought some CCR simplicity to the project but just enough Spector Wall of Sound to further differentiate the Texas trio from the rest of the pack. The band`s sound was as musically wild as the album name implied, and the original restless natives are back. Three Ring Circus, includes the entirety of Restless Natives, (first time on CD) along with all other official Explosives studio releases, plus two live bonus tracks and a bonus DVD capturing the band in its garage rock jungle glory. Relive the combustible rock and roll energy of the three friends who weren`t just talented, prolific, and fun. They were explosive. "Restless Natives"is a joy for fans of late 70s power pop. It`s a real find, too(much of this material came out on the "Kaboom" reissue from a few years ago, so you are clear). Stop now, just got the soundbites and then come back. You back? Got ya? Here`s the line.....like the first Romantics album, the first album from The Beat(Paul Collins` Beat, that is), The first Plimsouls album, some Rubinoos and that amazing album from Dirty Looks--a lot, actually. That IS The Explosives. ""Recycled thru their skinny ties and multi-colored hair, the result often resembles the power pop end of the early 80`s spectrum - roots aware acts like Rockpile and Marshall Crenshaw - although they cop more of a Ramones and early Costello attitude." - Vintage Guitar. The DVD has it all, too - 20 trax shot live. 9 from 1981, at their height, 3 from 1982 and the balance in 1988. YEAH!!
