THE SECRETS - Step Back Look Ahead |
No, power pop geeks, this is not The Secrets band that was on Titan Records and released one insanely hard-to-find album back in 1981. That said, drop the digital needle on a few songs on "Step Back Look Ahead" and you might think it IS that band, such are some of the `old school` power pop sounds going on. Lead off track, "Yesterday"(song #1 below) sounds like the type of independent power pop that Titan Records searched the mid-west for in the late 70s. It`s not just that song as you`ll find others here that will remind the power pop historian of such bands as Arlis!, The Boys, The Secrets* and Gary Charlson. Yet, The Secrets on this CD are just 4 guys getting together and having a good time with out any agenda or sound template that they are looking master. Such is the diversity of music here, it would not surprise me to find out that none of these guys would be sure what "power pop" might be. No problem there - they do it in many parts on this release!
