THE SHAMBLES - Tribute: Songs Of The Shambles - Forty One Sixty

The Shambles have been around for over 20 years, rising from the ashes of mod-greats Manual Scan. Now, in late 2009, a tribute to the band and their body of work is upon us. A worldwide collection of songs originally recorded by long running American rock group`s Manual Scan and the Shambles. The connection between the two bands is vocalist Bart Mendoza and guitarist Kevin Donaker-Ring, mainstays of both combos, who have now been performing together for over 30 years. While the tunes were originally a rock `n` roll, garage, mod, power-pop hybrid these recastings are stylistically diverse. Witness San Diego twang and stomp favorites the Sleepwalkers take on "Days and Maybe`s", here recast as a Mexican cumbia, or Spanish rockers The Happy Losers energetic romp through " Blurs Somewhere." Then there`s the blistering power-pop of Los Angeles based Cockeyed Ghost, and a terrific "Plan Of Action," updated ska style by Canada`s Kingpins. Seventies British mod hero Anthony Meynell (Squire) was a big influence on the band`s songwriting, and here Meynell returns the favor with his new group Sugarplum and a brilliant rendition of "Confidence & Love." Meanwhile top pop rockers the Anderson`s contribute one of the biggest surprises here, an otherwise unreleased tune from Mendoza`s archive. And yes, it`s that Robbie Rist on guitar. It`s a truly eclectic collection. Mendoza penned most of the material here, but long time followers of the band will be thrilled to find additional songs from Donaker-Ring. While a few numbers have been previously released, the majority of the music here is brand new and includes artists from Spain, England, Serbia, Canada, Sweden, Australia as well as the U.S., all adding up to an inspired new take on the music of Manual Scan & The Shambles.

Includes appearances from power-pop all star (and actor) Robbie Rist (The Brady Bunch, etc), 70s UK Mod legend Anthony Meynell (Squire), 80s British indie heroes Yeh Yeh, Risk frontman Mark Le Gallez, Mike Kamoo (Lights On /The Stereotypes), Ray Brandes (The Tell-Tale Hearts), Victor Penalosa (The Quarter After/The Fuzztones), Earle Mankey (Sparks), Patrick Dennis & Christopher Hoffee (Steve Poltz), Derrick Anderson (Dave Davies) and many more.
