The Lullabies - Lullabies Lullaby | Featuring Stew from The Negro Problem on all the trax, The Lullabies is a Los Angeles based songwriter collective featuring critically acclaimed performers and Silverlake OGs Stew, fellow STEW/The Negro Problem member Heidi Rodewald, Jeff Merchant of PG-13 and Michael Whitmore of the Whitmore Some`tet and Listing Ship. What started out as a dinner and casual living room rehearsal for a low key one-off coffeehouse gig (the sole point of which was to have some fun while puzzling their friends and fans) has ended up here. There is an admittedly psycho-eclectic flavor to their CD, "Lullabies` Lullaby", which naturally reflects the fact that these four friends have somewhat eclectic tastes and without delving too deep into their own preposterously complicated personal lives, decidedly psycho. What we have here is four distinct songwriting personalities coming together to drink affordable wine, listen to Ives and Bacharach, complain about "the good old days of Silverlake" and when that gets old, explore the various elements of the pop spectrum which they represent, reaching from sweet, melodic pop to moody non-pop pop to op-pop, prog-pop and back to the top. But no soda pop.
