2004 solo release! From 1982 to 1991 Tim Lee was 1/2 of first-wave underground pop-rockers The Windbreakers, applying a roots rock edge to Bobby Sutliff`s shimmering pop style. They crafted distinctly American music that combined punk`s ragged power with Merseybeat melodicism. Some of the great guitar work those two players created is here in spades(and aces) and bolsters this up front. Lee`s work is a beatifically gorgeous rootsy trail of dusty backrooms, warm summer nights on the porch and distinctively Southern jangle. Lee`s deep and poetic twangy drawl blends many Neil Young-isms and his folksy-pop template is one that many Americana-ish bands would be well to pay attention to and mimic. This is a work of honest reflection and intensely personal while casting a net that fans of roots rock with gorgeous twang `n jangles and masterful guitar work inside every note. Well, Tim hasn`t lost his way and his latest solo release powers through 13 cuts that could be described much the same as his former band`s work. That`s a very good thing, as he maintains an honest, earthy approach to his song craft that, while relatively straight ahead, remains satisfying. With songs produced by Todd Steed, Bruce Watson, Jim Rivers, Neilson Hubbard, Mitch Easter and Don Coffey Jr. of Superdrag, who also drums on most of the tracks, No Discretion certainly doesn`t suffer from no direction. Lee moves from one crunchy guitar-driven gem to another, assisted by his wife Susan Bauer Lee on bass, with guitarist and mandolin player Greg Horne, guitarist Barry Hannah Jr. and Windbreakers keyboardist Mark Wyatt, among others.
