We have been pushing this CD the end of 2003 when this came out. It *still* is one of the strongest debuts of this decade on a three crucial points: 1. first - and most important - the music. It still staggers and dazzles, as I mention below. 2. Sales. We`ve been selling music online since 1997 and been around since `95. A surefire way to empirically prove a CD`s long-term worth is by a simple question: "Does It Continue to sell?" and "Are people hearing about organically?(another words word-of-mouth) 3. Finally, another question: As the owner of this business, do I continually recommend this CD and have happy clients who come back and say "Man, Bruce - right on with that choice!!". Answer with Tiny Volcano: "Yes". So with that, below is what I wrote about the CD back in 2003. Get in there and listen to the samples, too! ENJOY. A dazzling debut and must for fans of The Wondermints, Jellyfish, XTC, Crowded House and Owsley to check out, big time! Check out the many soundbites here---we like the music to do the talking and they do. The singer sounds a lot like Neil Finn and Darian from Wondermints with healthy helpings of `la-la-la` vocals gently combining with bouncy, memorable melodies, reminding us, in many spots here, of "Bellybutton"-era Jellyfish. In a few parts, there`s some "Sunflower"-era Beach Boys going, too. A lots of Andy Partridge twists and turns. There`s not much of anything to fault here. Tiny Volcano is the project for an old name for pop fans from the early 90`s.... Scott McPherson, who led Liar`s Club. Masterful songwriting, moving hooks and high impact pop for those looking for a fix with any of the bands listed above. NOT to be missed and two(if we had three, we`d thrust `three`) big thumbs up straight up, heavenward!
From Fufkin.com:
Tiny Volcano is no stranger to catchy pop, being a fan of the likes of The
Beatles, The Beach Boys, XTC, Prefab Sprout, Neil Finn, Burt Bacharach and
Jellyfish. Many of these references find their way into his creations, but
rather than concentrate on finding them, I suggest you listen and enjoy
what`s here instead. Tiny Volcano is a most auspicious
debut..... is as sweet and infectious as pop gets.....Tiny Volcano is quite
an accomplishment, displaying an impressive breadth of variety in song
styles and execution, with clean production and a fun vibe that leave
you wanting more. Scott McPherson and his three bandmates deliver
a strong collection of songs on this spectacular debut. While
some maintain that melodic pop is a thing of the past, Tiny
Volcano is proof positive that those sounds continue to
thrive.
