V/A - THE JETSET - Tribute: Do You Wanna Be In The Show?

The Jetset were one of the most popular and influential of the mod-power pop bands on the British indie scene in the early and mid 80s. Sadly, all their CDs are out of print but their music is given full homage here on "Do You Wanna Be In The Show?, a 17 song tribute that is surprisingly listenable from beginning to end(never easy w/ tribute albums) and features more than two hand full of a great pop songs played by such Not Lame faves as Jeremy, The Eddies, The Ringles, The Spring Collection, Herb Eimerman, Ed James, Mega Super Ultra, Rinaldi Sings and more.

"the Jetset was built around the songs of their multi-instrumentalist, Paul Bevoir, releasing five albums during its lifespan. There have been numerous re-issues and compilations ever since, particularly in Japan. Bevoir went on to work with other groups including Small Town Parade and wrote for numerous artists including The Times, Mari Wilson and Japanese duo Puffy. He is also a well respected sleeve designer working on covers for everyone from The Honeybus to Elvis Presley. But it is that first stab at international renown that has cast the greatest shadow. The Jetset`s songs have now made an impact on several generations of artists and Do You want To Be In The Show showcases this spectacularly. Highlights include The Eddies (U.S.) neo-psychedelic take on "Colour My World," Rinaldi Sings (UK) dynamic blast on the title track and the Cola Jet Set`s (Spain) wistful rendition of The Man Who Lives Upstairs, but there is no shortage of top tracks to be found on this disc. Hearing these tracks leaves you with no doubt that Bevoir is one of the most talented and underrated songwriters to emerge from the eighties, with a catalog full of gems ripe for rediscovery. Whether you listen to the original Jetset classics or these new versions from today`s up and coming pop scenesters, you will agree these are great songs that hit all the right targets, full of brash youthful energy, intricate arrangements, harmonies and a surplus of melody." Bart Mendoza, The Shambles.
