P. Hux - Mile High Fan (Parthenon Huxley)
It’s all about the song. Tens of thousands of artists struggle to get that major label deal. A fraction of 1% of get in the ring. Parthenon Huxley’s been there, landing a deal with Columbia a years ago (and releasing the criminally under-appreciated, at least in terms of record sales, “Sunny Nights”) and landing a gig as an in-house songwriter for MCA Publishing in the early 90's. While many who get to this level may be lacking in the 'talent department', Parthenon Huxley (P.Hux) is most certainly not one of them. Since then, he's gone on to release a handful of truly outstanding albums that many of you are familiar with, garnishing a devout fan-base and earning him a reputation as an "American Andy Partridge". Oh yeah, he's been fronting Electric Light Orchestra Part II for the last 8 years playing the part of Jeff Lynne. Which brings us to the whole point of this mini-web site. Not Lame is wickedly proud to be working with Parthenon on his latest project under the name of P. Hux with a project called “Mile High Fan: LA Recordings 1988-1993”. Hopefully, you are listening to it right now, too. Not Lame is putting together a package too good to turn down. Like we have been doing recently with records on Not Lame’s label, we are standing tall, completely,
But let me let Parthenon himself take this over. Click on the button below and listen to Parthenon Huxley talk about the project in his own words.
So here’s what’s up. PRE-ORDER “Mile High Fan” and Not Lame is going to pretty much take care of you, okay? **EXCLUSIVE BONUS ONE: CD-R WITH THREE UNRELEASED SONGS** To your great benefit, Not Lame has manhandled Parthenon to come up with three special, totally unreleased songs never before but for a few handfuls of people. But this is only for you, when you pre-order “Mile High Fan”. Why? Because Not Lame are fans first. We love it when we can get a bit more of an artist we love. So Not Lame is bringing the heat. For You. What’s on it? Here ya go with few notes from Parthenon about them: Track #1: "Live Like A King"--performed live at the Greek Theater, Los Angeles, 1995. Parthenon: “We'd just released "Deluxe" on Black Olive Records and were doing shows to promote the record. My friend Robert Lamm invited us to open for his band, Chicago, at the Greek Theater. The recording is a "board" tape--direct from the mic inputs--so there's no hiding anything. Track #2: Chance To Be Loved"--multi-tracked acoustic guitar-and-vocal demo. Chance To Be Loved was the opening track and first single on my CBS debut Sunny Nights. It was a multi-layered, almost conceptual piece. Not a typical single, and not a typical song from me, either. This version is stripped down to guitar and vocal. I like it. It allows you to hear how the song could've been produced very differently. Track #3: "Spanish Lucy in the Magic Diamond Sky Castle." One day Okay, that is one cool thing. But we have *more*. *EXCLUSIVE BONUS TWO: FREE DOWNLOAD OF THE LONG OUT OF PRINT ALBUM “VeG”.** What on earth is....”VeG”? Well, VeG was recorded in the early 90's and shelved when the band's drummer was called away by Bob Dylan for five years (Winston Watson)! VeG is something different and it’s wickedly *cool*. It' s rocking, rootsy bar pop night out. Like pop meeting Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn w/the Fab Thunderbirds pouring the drinks. When "Mile High Fan" ships, we'll send you a link, along w/ the Bonus CD-R, where you can download this album. Another gift for showing such exquisite good taste. Here’s a cool review on the record from back in 1996. "These strong, heavy and irreproachable songs might not appeal to power pop purists..(but) the pop configuration is deftly present on the album..a 4 out of 5!"-POPSIDED. Oh, but Not Lame ain’t stopping there. No, sir-eee. **EXCLUSIVE BONUS THREE: ** Bruce Brodeen, head Not Lame dude, further man-handled Parthenon to give up the ghost on his Top albums of all time. Bruce asked him for 10, 20 of the most influential albums on his life. Parthenon came up with a righteously cool list of 33 (always a lucky number!) and wrote a bunch of commentary on each one. Fans will not want to miss this enlightening, humourous list. Wait!! There’s even more if you pre-order Parthenon Huxley’s new (well, sort of ‘new’, but you knew that already!) album. Again, all these freebies are *ONLY* available to those who preorder “Mile High Fan”. Once this album is out, these are gone. Forever. Here’s a secret message from Parthenon again. This one is more meant if you’ve already pre-ordered this awesome CD, but we want to share it with all of you as it gives you a bit more information on it and reveals the soul of not only an important artist, but a great guy.
