THE NINES:THE NINES:THE NINES:
There’s a lot of mighty awesome power pop bands out there. Fact is, a few are truly special and are just, simply, better than the rest. The Nines are one of those bands. And The Nines, after a long absence, have returned with their crowning musical achievement, a statement of purpose, passion and perseverance. Imported from Canada, it is called "Calling Distance Stations" and it is due in early June. The band, also, marshalled up some amazing outside help from Jason Falkner (who helped with mixing a bunch of the songs and did some singing) and Andy Partridge - players of high-caliber, obviously but, frankly, The Nines’ music is in the same high-league we feel. ‘Click’ here to read more about this process. If you are not listening to the songs off their new CD, "Calling Distance Stations" right now, stop what you are doing and turn the volume up above these words. The Nines and Not Lame have crafted a very special offer for Not Lamers, too - so read on! First, though, listen to the message from front man, Steve Eggers and hear, in his own words, a bit about "Calling Distance Stations".
Now, here’s what Not Lame exclusively has for you. Check this out.
In March 2006, The Nines had the honor to play their songs in front of a large audience and with a backing of a full orchestra, courtesy of The Hart House Chamber Strings. The two songs, “Melanie” and “Marigold” are classic Nines songs and the sensitive reinterpretation of the Chamber Strings breathes a new and different light on this material. These songs are not available *anywhere* except if you pre-order "Calling Distance Stations" from Not Lame. Listen to a clip of these beautiful songs right here...
There’s more!
Even the most ardent fan of The Nines may not know about a little known, out of print 4 song EP that the band released back in 1999 that was only available in Canada for a short time. By pre-ordering "Calling Distance Stations" now, you’ll get two of those songs, “Far Away” and “Backseat”. Check out some short clips of these songs here.
Let’s take a break. ‘Click’ here to read a review that was just written about "Calling Distance Stations" by Bud Scoppa, one of the most respected writer and A&R men in the music industry. There’s also commentary on some songs from Eggers and a brief history of the band written by Scoppa here, too.
