Like The Explosives that made its way onto this site, The Allies is a modest, lost power pop classic from the early 80`s, 1982 to be exact. A major and cool find for pop fans of this era---extremely hard to find on either CD or LP. Rare on LP now and collectors of power pop are already familiar w/ this wonderful pop ditty(fully remastered and liner notes, to boot). ""The Allies is a shockingly good record..The band`s sound alternates between high powered pop and rock` n roll, somewhere between Tom Petty and The Romantics."-The Rocket. "Among the most impressive albums released locally. The production quality is first-rate... The songwriting of Steve Adamek, Dave Kincaid-an excellent lead guitarist, and Carl Funk-a local songwriter, generally is excellent." - Seattle Times. " Reflecting the times, the band presented a healthy mix of Power Pop, Punk, New Wave,`60`s British Invasion and good ol` Rock `n Roll, and played non-stop from the fall of 1979 through January of 1985, being featured by virtually every newspaper and rock radio station in the region, as well as appearing on local television music programs and newscasts. The Allies were one of the first Seattle bands to have a video on MTV(featuring soon to be member of The Brandos in the mid 80`s). The group won one of MTV`s Basement Tapes contests, and the clip for "Emma Peel," a lovelorn homage to Diana Rigg`s character on The Avengers TV series, gave the band fleeting national recognition. In 1982, the Allies released their debut LP, Allies, on their own label. The album`s power pop and new wave sounds contrasted with Seattle`s affection for heavy metal, but the band found an audience within the city`s burgeoning underground scene with like-minded acts such as the Cowboys and the Heats. The LP received positive reviews, and when the video for "Emma Peel" appeared on MTV, the group were seen as being on the verge of a commercial breakthrough. However, despite constant gigs and rock-radio airplay for "Emma Peel," the band couldn`t land a record label deal and the Allies broke up in 1985. Very Highly Recommended!
