AlternativA - A Night In Starlight (w/ bonus Christmas EP)

This is the backdrop and origin of this release: In the year 2003 songwriter Willem Evers discovered the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) by accident. Blown away by the magical sound of ELO he instantly decided to write new music in ELO-style and form a band to perform these new songs with. The band was to be called AlternativA. In just 2 months Willem wrote 19 ELO-inspired songs and selected 14 to be on the first AlternativA album called: A Night In Starlight that came out in 2005 but we only discovered recently.

There are serene, sustained strings and the kind of choral extravagance you hear at the pivitol moments of an orchestral epic, just like Sir Lynne. It`s a a record of high ambition and reach, a bold vision, a beautifully calibrated in an homage to great writer in pop. Evers` high-pitched voice absorbs each melody as they snake their way like liquid through AlternativA`s songs. Like Bleu`s L.E.O. project earlier in 2006, "A Night In Starlight" by AlternativA is an homage done right and gives tribute to a great creative voice. Don`t miss out!
