THE BREAKDOWNS - s/thttp://www.notlame.com/CDBREAKDOWNS1.htmlTHE BREAKDOWNS - s/tTHE BREAKDOWNS - s/tSpanish import. What is about Spanish popsters - they just know how to have FUN. And that is what The Breakdowns bring in spade taking on a special angle in the history of the power pop genre. Working backwards to a time when The Plimsouls and Paul Collins` Beat ruled our lives. Much of the material of The Breakdowns harkens to perfectly back to classic material from these bands, you`d swear they could be outtakes. The only giveway is that their lead singer, Joe Breakdown, sounds like Peter Case after smoking a pack of cigarettes and boozing it up, which is to mean his voice is a bit gruffier, more gravely than Case`s - but, the thing is, it works perfectly for this kind of material. No harm, no foul - thumbs up! <p> "They remind me of a sort of more laid back version of The Ramones mixed with a little Tom Petty and Ducks Deluxe for good measure. With perfectly crated well structured songs, and a band where every member seems to compliment each other perfectly. Every song on this, their debut, is catchy." Glitzine. I can agree with most of that review, but it is clear the reviewer has never heard The Plimsouls or Paul Collins` Beat. " "Anglophile strut `n roll meets transatlantic power pop, all packaged in a neat black n white 12" sleeve. Energetic frontman Joe Breakdown and his charges dish out hook after hook of classic, dirty pop wth soaring vocals and beautiful harmonies that you just don`t hear in rock n roll any more." "They have mastered the art of writing timeless pop/rock songs. Great rock and rool, bluesy guitar riffs, moderately splendid solos, and fantastically worked bacing vocals all add to their overall effect. `Don`t Look Back` exudes rawness and swagger!" - RockCity. Go on - ENJOY the classic sounds of yesteryear brought into the present - this is our kind of guilty pleasure!
