The Happy Landings - Danger Risk Of Death When Train Moving

This is the solo outing from Mark Harrod, the former singer of Popgun(who have broken up), their solid CD is still available. This is a artist-created CD-R project that showcases the truly outstanding voice of Harrod, a classic power pop styled one. Much of the material here is piano-driven with strong hints of Emitt Rhodes, solo McCartney, The Eels and Ben Folds. Some material pushes the artistic, creative boundries of such craftmenship, working in experiements with more new-wave, electric keyboard rhythms and hook stylings. These don`t work as well as the more straightforward songs, but the strong material dominates. Other stylings here, that work very well are the perfect Weezer pop of "Precious Advice" and "And Yet" and then "Kate Don`t Mutilate", which manages present the answer to the `what if...." question of "If the Strokes were a pop band, what would it sounds like". This home-grown project hints, clearly and strongly, that The Happy Landings/Mark Harrod will be making interesting music in the future. Very Highly Recommended!
