The High Caliber - A Certain Kind Of Charm

The only thing we could find fault with The High Caliber`s debut EP, The Apricot, was simply that it was....an EP(when Not Lame digs a band, we want to hear more than 5/6 songs, we just want *more*!). Well, that`s not applicable here and not only does the band deliver 10 tasty, jangled up, (mostly) gritty pop slices here, the band far exceeds the promise of the debut. The High Caliber sounds like a classic mixture of Velvet Crush, some Super Deluxe, Sloan, The Shambles, a slight dash of Shoes (lots of "S" bands, guys!) when they played in the garage and, get this, Teenage Fanclub with a strong Jesus And The Marychain influence(the poppier material from the, not the noise-pop). Breaking off that statement, there`s more to their sound: something distinctively British as I am left with "A Certin Kind Of Charm" as being a product of some guys that spent a lot of time listening to early/mid 90`s Brit pop like BMX Bandits, Boo Radleys, Menswear and Super Furry Animals....and Creation Records. Add it all up and The High Caliber live up to the lofty expectations of their name. Extremely Highly Recommended!
