Montana - Starsign: Tarantulahttp://www.notlame.com/CDMONTANA1.htmlMontana - Starsign: TarantulaMontana - Starsign: TarantulaOUT OF PRINT - ONLY ONE COPY!! FIRST COME, FIRST GETS IT.Spanish import. 2005 release from a big favorite of Not Lamers after their stunning debut Bubblegum Love. This Spanish import (but the band is Australian) delivers on all fronts and is classic Not Lame styled power pop. Montana`s album `Tarantula` delivers a colourful and clean pop/rock sound that isn`t so kitsch anymore, which means that these guys have got something that other bands don`t have at the moment, originality! What on earth is it in the water/ocean down there?! Like many of the great bands down there, Montana has a crisp, clear understanding of a pop song, a hold of history with the inclusion of a guitar or two, the appropriate embrace of modern technology and more hooks than a tackle box. A fashion of heavy guitar riffs and power-pop harmonies and sweet guitar hooks steer every song here and that`s the way it should be! You`ll hear the classic sounds of The Chevelles, Superscope and The Hummingbirds are sign posts. Other influences are clearly Teenage Fanclub, Tommy Keene and Matthew Sweet. It`s a hip-swinging, soft-centered affair. Singer Paul Scott`s distinctive voice, deft melody choices and 60`s pedigree ensure that "Starsign: Tarantula" is an album of haunting pop concoction and confection.
" `Blondes against Brunettes` is a gem that perfectly demonstrates Montana`s talent. The song has a mellow sound, with slow guitar picking and strumming to create this deliciously romantic sound. The harmonies work really well too. `Saturday night` rates a mention for many reasons. One, because of its uber funky sound with the repetitive, yet catchy, guitar riff and maracas. Also because of the lyrics "sunrise through tomato sauce eyes", completely random but in a good way. If you want a truly wonderful pop track, skip to `Summerscool` and crank it* you will be bopping around in next to no time. "- OzMusicProject. "Torn between power pop and rock, or some intermediate, pensive state, falling gracefully amidst it all!" - Barfly.com "From the get-go you know this is an album hooked on hooks...just jammed packed full of the stuff!" - screamingbloodymess.com.
With their second album Starsign:Tarantula Without abandoning the debut`s classic guitar hooks & inventive pop melodies the song writing on Starsign:Tarantula has grown in variety & strength, the musicianship veering from the subtle and sophisticated `Blondes against Brunettes` to the downright brutal `Rejected`. Lush boy/girl vocal arrangements reminiscent of "Nearer` grace the powerpop blast that is `MTV`, `Good goes Bad`, `Saturday Night` & `Summerscool` are all simply poptastic, melodically sweet, lyrically dark, they beg repeated listenings. `Stalki Blues` & `Wait` push the boundaries of what can rightly be considered `Powerpop` - musically inventive but packing enough hooks to lodge in your brain & stay there for days. Another step forward then, another step in the right direction. Extremely Highly Recommended!
Good Goes Bad - mp3
MTV - mp3
Wait - mp3
Sumerscool - mp3
Divine Discontent - mp3http://www.notlame.com/Montana/Page_8/CDMONTANA1.html
