The Ride Theory - In This Cityhttp://www.notlame.com/CDRIDETHEORY1.htmlThe Ride Theory - In This CityThe Ride Theory - In This CityCanadian import. The Ride Theory are soooo massively cool w/ the sounds they work. Taking cues from "Beat Crazy"-era Joe Jackson, some dirty `n loud Kinks with mixed The Figgs and the Canadian sounds of Sloan and The Flashing Lights. Folks familiar w/ Brett Rosenberg Problem, Ted Leo and The Pharmiscists, the first Strokes album and Dead 60`s will find more sign posts. *But* here`s the cooly insane thing w/ all those sounds, there`s a strong, strong homage to The Beatles circa `64/65 that creeps in so many corners. It`s all over the place but you can`t simply say "Beatle-esque" and get it right. Listen to "All That I Know" or "My Girl June" below for the best examples of this. "4 stars.. You try to avoid the term "Beatles-esque." After all, comparing a rock `n` roll band to The Beatles is like comparing some dude`s face to God`s: duh, we`re all made in the same image. But then you hear the sweet melodies and harmonies of The Ride Theory`s "All That I Know." You quickly change the subject, mentioning that the Hamilton foursome`s excellent second album depicts a world of record stores, cars, kisses, doot-doot-doots and oh-oh-ohs -- how it pays tribute to innocent 1950s milkshake-and-soda pop, Kink-y British R&B, surf guitar and dirty Detroit rock. You insist that, despite that small trace of a Zombies melody in "My Girl June," the group`s sound is fresh and refreshing. Still, you can`t deny the song`s gloriously Beatles-esque chorus, just as you can`t ignore those four faces in the back of your mind shaking their mop-tops in disappointment. "-Eye.net.
This is a joyous, fully melodic, high-charged tune-fest. Sharp, dead-center guitar tones, a `all-out`, let`s have a blast spirit---which fits as these guys are, evidently, teenagers. They sure don`t sound like, though, as the tunes sound weathered and so self-assured. They know what they want, how to play it and how to deliver. Inside all the brash and crunchy guitars, there insanely catchy hoooks, slippery riffs and lasting after-taste. Other more than agree, read on:
"The Ride Theory take British Invasion melody/harmony, the dirt and grit of Detroit/NYC street sense rock and roll, jump up and down infectious R&B while still managing to weld in the guts and glory of Hamiltons musical history. Hailing from the hometown (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) of great rock and roll such as Teenage Head, Forgotten Rebels, and Simply Saucer should come as no surprise after listening to The Ride Theorys tunes. Like most bands that have come out of this working class city, The Ride Theory play unpretentious great rootsy rock and roll from the heart. The Ride Theory has managed to up the ante on this release distancing them from the pack. More musical influences and sounds are infused into this brew making it that much more potent. Definitely one of the better current Canadian acts that should be recognized!"-Sugarbuzz.
